Preparing for Our Alaskan Adventure

Well, we leave in a little over four months for Alaska and will be there for at least four years! I had a feeling that Florida born and raised girl and Alabama born and raised boy would have some extreme and possibly hilarious adventures that would be worth sharing, so I decided to go ahead and start a blog to track our experience. Plus, being so far away from family, it will be a nice way for them to keep up with us.

We have started to look for houses in Anchorage, Alaska. In fact, it's about all we do in our spare time. We still haven't decided if we want to live on base or not. We've heard there is a year wait and are planning to get on the waiting list to see what happens. We have also started stocking up on winter clothes. Mostly for Abigail who will be almost 10 months old when we leave Florida.

We have decided that we are taking two weeks to drive cross-country to Washington with many stops along the way to sight see. From Washington, we are going to take a ferry that travels to a few places in Alaska. The ferry is like a small cruise ship and has cabins to stay in. From what I've read, there is a good chance to see whales! Ferry Pictures Cool, right?!

I got very lucky with school. I have one semester left of classes at FSU-PC then student teaching. Amazingly, FSU said they would work with me and allow me to student teach in Alaska and still graduate from FSU. I will be able to attend meeting via webcam and record me teaching lessons and email them to my teacher. This is such a blessing! Many of my classes did not transfer to the schools in Alaska, which would have added even more years onto my near-decade college career.

We are very excited to start this new adventure and be able to experience a whole new world. Until then, we are blessed that we are able to spend the holidays with family before we leave. We bought a new camera during Black Friday and will be learning how to use it so we can track EVERYTHING! I'm sure our practice pictures will be posted soon. =)
